Buddhist Psychology

~ Classifications of Mind: Lo Rig ~

September 7th 2022 – May 2023

Wisdom & Compassion Series

This course offers an introduction to the science of mind or Lo Rig.

The foundation of Buddhist study is based on the understanding of Mind. In this course we will be reading Geshe Tashi Tserings third text Buddhist Psychology. This text encapsulate the fundamentals of the tradition of pramana, authentic knowing, called Lorik: Classifications of Mind, which is a staple of all monastic education systems. This text analyzes the mind in multiple ways which brings out the deeper understanding of awareness that is at the heart of the path of Buddhism, and provides definitions for each of these as well as the ways that minds engage with their objects.

At the completion of the Buddhist Psychology course, students will have a deeper foundation on which they can continue to develop their practice and study. Should participants wish to continue studying at Vidya Method, then the completion of this course will open to the door to the many other offerings in the ‘Foundation of Buddhist Thought’ series. buddhist psychology
