Awakening Wisdom

~ Introduction to Meditation ~

With Megan Lees

August 5th – September 16th

It can be difficult to start a meditation practice, and even more difficult to maintain it. In this series, we will practice yoga and pranayama which will increase our body awareness. Yoga can help us to find a comfortable meditation seat while focusing on our breath will calm the mind and our nervous system.

This series is designed for beginners and those who already have a meditation practice. Participants will learn techniques that are beneficial to any level of practitioner.

We will meet on Wednesday evening in Centerville from 6:30-7:30 PM. Participants will also have access to Monday night meditation classes with Bryson Newell from 6:30-7:30 PM via Zoom.

Guided meditations.

Instructions for practicing in daily life.

Reflection questions and a practice journal.

Practical ways to begin a personal meditation practice.

The central practice of mindfulness meditation, which is integral to Buddhism, has been shown to decrease levels of stress and anxiety. You will learn how to calm the mind and relax the body. The course will also teach traditional postures and breathing practices. At the completion of the course, you will have a strong foundation on which to build and develop a meditation practice.

Should participants wish to continue studying at Vidya Method, then the completion of this course would open the door to the many other offerings in the Foundation of Buddhist Thought series. All levels welcome!
