Tai Chi Group Course

Fall Session

September 12th– December 19th

Thursdays 6:30-7:30pm

Saturdays 8:15-9:15am

In our Fall Session we will learn the Tai Chi Yang Form. Using this form allows us to explore deeper levels of embodiment. We will continue to develop our Silk reeling as this the basis of Tai Chi training, helping the student to develop strength, internal energy, coordination, body awareness, and unity in movement. Also known as Chan Si Gong; Chan (pulling), Si (silk) and Gong (skill achieved through  effort).

This course will present and refine techniques that will help you discover and develop your fascial body. Learning how to use our fascia is a key element to any Tai Chi training. You will discover how to utilize your somatic mind-body connection to develop neural and fascia health.

“Movement is life. Life is a process. Improve the quality of the process and you improve the quality of life itself.”

Classes are taught by Bryson Newell.

I have practiced Tai Chi, Qigong, Baguazhang and Somatics for more than thirty years. I have studied with many extradorinaiy teachers in all of these arts both at home and abroad. The benefits of Tai Chi cannot be overestimated from my experience. Because Tai Chi is a moving meditation it’s a wonderful compliment to any sitting meditation practice especially at these times when many people lead sedentary lifestyles already. I practice both sitting and moving meditation daily and I’ve found that Tai Chi acts as a bridge that helps us take the meditation state of calm, focused attention into our daily life and not just while we are sitting on the cushion.

I incorporate Somatic ideas and practices into my Tai Chi because I believe the work of Alexander, Feldenkrais, and Thomas Hanna have a lot to offer and are complementary practices to Tai Chi and other Eastern Embodiment practices. My approach to any of the mind body disciplines is to make them as accessible as possible to all students.

These are live zoom classes held once a week. Each class is carefully structured to reveal something new and fascinating about our mind body complex. Over the course you will discover your body’s natural holistic connection through the fascial lines using silk reeling movements. These moments will help you to rebuild your fascia body, thus relating to your body more holistically.
